Kitten

A young cat between the ages of 0-7 moons. Kittens are not allowed outside of the camp without supervision and cannot be trained. They learn about tribe life from their parents and ancients, and often play with to-bes.

To-Be

A young cat between the ages of 7-18 moons who has been assigned a guardian. The guardian is responsible for their apprentice's well-being, growth as a person, and training. To-bes are assigned official responsibilities such as babysitting kits or helping the ancients. Older to-bes are allowed on patrols with their guardian. Most to-bes graduate at 14 moons but some may remain to-bes for longer if their guardian does not feel they are ready for the responsibilities of being an adult.

Young Adult

A young cat between the ages of 12-20 moons who is effectively on probation. As they have just graduated, young adults are not permitted heavy responsibilities such as taking a mate, having kits, or getting a to-be. Ideally, this allows them to mature some more and lets the Frostteller see how they act without an official guardian to guide them.

Seasoned Adult

A cat between the ages of 20-70 moons. By this point, cats are presumed to understand what is expected of them and as such, are given more freedom and responsibilities. Many cats will take a mate and have kits, and Frosttellers will typically choose a seasoned adult as a guardian. Some may be given multiple to-bes if they perform particularly well.

Senior Adult

A cat who is at least 70 moons. By this point, most cats will have had kits and/or mentored at least one to-be. These cats are considered wise for having been able to live so long and continue to function as adults. A good Frostteller will consider a senior adult's advice.

Ancient

By 100 moons, most cats are ready to retire although some become ancients earlier due to devastating injuries or illnesses. These cats are highly respected for having lived so long although "youthful ancients" are also honored for having been able to live through whatever forced them into retirement. Ancients of all ages and physical abilities will often participate in camp duties, occasionally with supervision to ensure their safety. However, their primary duty is teaching the kits of the tribe about the the culture.
